Our story begins in 1895, when the Sunset Telephone Company connected Merced to Mariposa, establishing the Mariposa Telephone Exchange. This marked the foundation of what would eventually become The Mariposa County Telephone Company, Inc. In 1908, the Raymond Telephone Company was founded, and in 1953, it was renamed Sierra Telephone Company, Inc. The pivotal moment came in 1984, when the two companies merged, with Sierra Telephone Company, Inc. becoming the cornerstone of Sierra Tel, a family-owned business that continues to thrive.

As the needs of the communities we serve have evolved, so has Sierra Tel. We began by providing traditional telephone services and expanded to include Sierra Tel Long Distance for nationwide calls. Our commitment to connecting people extended further with Sierra Tel Internet, empowering remote work, distance learning, telemedicine, and enhancing public safety. Sierra Tel Broadband is a crucial component of our growth, supporting the infrastructure necessary to deliver cutting-edge broadband services to our mountain communities-services that are vital to the economic vitality of rural areas.
